Youth strength training works when it is coached well. The exercises are only part of it: the real product is a young athlete who knows how to warm up, move well, listen to a coach and come back next week.
What the Youth Athlete Program is
The Youth Athlete Program at Extreme Fitness is for ages 6–17. Sessions run Monday through Friday, 10:30–11:30am, and the price is $249 (regularly $299).
The program includes group workouts, team challenges and educational workshops on nutrition and healthy living. It is designed to build confidence, teamwork and resilience while improving strength, speed and flexibility.
Why strength, speed and flexibility
Young athletes come in with different backgrounds. Some play multiple sports; some are new to structured training. The program is built to accommodate different athletic levels, with trainers providing modifications and personalized attention.
Strength work at this age should be about control. Technique comes first: how to set up, how to brace, how to move through a range that belongs to the athlete. Speed and flexibility work support the same goal — moving well with less risk of overuse.
What good youth coaching looks like
Look for a coach who explains the why, watches every rep and changes the session when the group needs it. Look for a room where effort is encouraged but showing off is not.
The program's team challenges are a good sign: they teach young athletes to work with others, take turns and handle a little healthy pressure. Nutrition workshops add context without turning food into a rulebook.
- Ask how many coaches are on the floor.
- Ask how the program adapts to different ages and levels.
- Ask what a typical session includes.
- Ask what your child should bring and when to arrive.
What parents can do
Keep the schedule consistent. Sleep and food matter more than any single session. Ask your child what they learned, not just what they lifted. And let the coach coach — the best environment is one where the athlete listens to the person running the room.
Tell the coach about any injury or niggle before the session starts. Modifying the work is part of the job, and it keeps a small issue from becoming a reason to sit out.
Progress in youth training is often quiet: better posture, more confidence, a faster recovery between plays. Watch for those before you watch for a number.
How to enroll
Enroll through the Extreme Fitness registration page. If you want to talk through the schedule, the age group or what a first session looks like, call the gym at (619) 500-5120.
The program meets Monday through Friday, 10:30–11:30am, at 2390 Boswell Rd #400 in Eastlake. Bring your questions — a good first conversation makes the first session easier.
The lifts are the lesson plan. Confidence, teamwork and consistency are the result.
